Our clients were a busy professional couple with two young children who also cared for a couple of rescue greyhounds with a propensity for digging. The clients asked for: a modern garden with seating in the sun, a patio, a space to accommodate a children’s playroom and to deter the dogs digging.
Raised beds resolved the dog issue and provided a strong structure to the garden which complemented the architecture of the new extension.
Completion
2016
Location
Muswell Hill. N10, London
Size
140 square metres
Features
A patio large enough to allow for dining out for six was surrounded by low soft planting to three sides with a touch of fragrance included. Wide steps to one side led down to the main garden. The base and services for the client-supplied playroom were provided with access steps and a lavender filled planter.
What We Did
The garden sat in both sun and shade, the main seating was located in the sun with
raised beds behind and fragrant evergreen climbers, perennials for colour and grasses for movement – in front a small bed of lavenders.
In the right hand bed an established winter-flowering cherry was
installed with underplanting and agapanthus to complement the fence colour. A bench top wall on the left hand side provided shade seating with the bed planted with shade lovers, ferns and shade loving climbers supported on wires. To provide a year round focal point a multi-stem silver birch was planted centrally, underplanted with flowing grasses to mirror the birch’s movement.
