Our client, a young family with two energetic children, approached us with a garden in need of a complete overhaul. Situated in Highgate, the garden presented several challenges: it lacked privacy, had uneven terrain, and the soil quality was far from ideal. The family’s desires were clear: they wanted a colourful and child-friendly outdoor space with areas for relaxation, a patio, and a pergola.
We divided the garden into two levels: a patio with a pergola at the same level as the living room, providing seamless indoor-outdoor living, and an upper-level flat lawn with a curved retaining wall with a sandstone copping stone. We introduced a lively perennial border, evergreen pleached trees for privacy, and a dedicated area for kids with a chalkboard and vegetable beds. The result: a colourful, child-friendly garden that blends relaxation, privacy, and play seamlessly.

What We Did
The project involved creating distinct levels in the garden to maximize space usage. On the lower level, we designed an inviting open-plan patio with a wooden pergola along with a comfortable floating bench. On the upper level, we established a generous lawn area, perfect for kids to play and run freely.
In the sunnier spots of the garden, we introduced a lively perennial border, bursting with colourful blooms throughout the seasons. To ensure year-round privacy and screening, we planted evergreen pleached trees along the boundaries.
